Storm Related Concerns present many problems for our residents and guests to the Kettle Lakes area. Our Kettle Lakes Storm Response Team aims to provide information to our residents, which they might want to consider before, during or after a significant storm event.
This section will share a growing body of resources that will address preparation, action, impact and recovery.
-
The growing severity and frequency of storms causes flooding and nutrient and bacteria loading. This can cause septic contamination of drinking wells. Click here and learn how to monitor and restore your contaminated drinking well.
Flooding also can damage docks, watercraft, cause road washouts, and result in personal as well as financial impact issues.
How we deal with these concerns both individually and as members of our lake associations varies.
Our Kettle Lakes are situated in an area rich in agriculture. Click here to read the recent blog on how farm runoff from intense storms raises phosphorous loads that drive HABs in Seneca-Keuka Lakes.
-
Long-term damage from significant storm water run-off imbalances the ecosystem and has broader implications. Lake water quality, harmful algal blooms, (HABs) services to homes, recreation, and even health concerns can arise and take much longer and present larger challenges.
-
Communicating support to our constituents is imperative. Using a variety of systems often involving social media and telecommunications will enable the team to reach out among the four Kettle Lakes memberships.
Here are the contacts for each of the four kettle lakes.
